“Run, run, run,” I chanted to my new running partner. When my watch beeped, telling me my heart rate was too high, I slowed down. “Walk,” I said. Then I leaned down, pet my obedient partner’s furry black and white head, and gave her a treat. “Good girl,” I said. Magnolia gobbled down her treat. “Run, run, run,” I said, and we started up again.
